Four selections for Gowran

The feature at Gowran is the Red Mills Chase off at 2:30. Only four runners go to post for this contest over two miles and four furlongs. It is disappointing that Presenting Percy doesn’t line up up but has the horse who followed him home in the RSA last year, Monalee does line up. I think Monalee will run a big race tomorrow then go onto the Ryanair at Cheltenham where he would have a good chance in my opinion.

Balko Des Flow finished second in the Leopardstown Christmas chase before going on to win the Ryanair for Henry De Bromhead last season. I think the step down in trip will suit Monalee. The same can’t be said about Edwulf and Anibale Fly. They are two horses that will be seen to better effect over longer trips.

Kilultagh Vic and Anibale Fly get 7lb of Monalee and Edwulf. I thought Kilutagh Vic was going to win the Irish Gold Cup last year when falling at the last. He showed signs of returning to form when he finished third at Gowran behind Presenting Percy over hurdles. He is a horse with a lot of ability but his jumping can be his downfall.

I think Monalee comes in here with the best form and he can enhance his Cheltenham prospects with a victory here.

Race two off at 1:50

Race two is the Red Mills Trial Hurdle over two miles. I think this is a very open race. Darasso is an interesting runner. Last time out he finished fifth behind Presenting Percy at Gowran over three miles. This will be his third race in Ireland after coming over from France.

He probably didn’t stay the three miles when finishing fifth. The step down to two miles is interesting. I think he can get his head infront in this winnable race.

Race four off at 3:05

Race four is the Racing Tv Handicap Hurdle over two miles and four furlongs. This looks a very open handicap. The horse that interests me is Buckie Cullen. He is a very lightly raced eight year old. This will only be his ninth career start.

He won his maiden hurdle last time out. The third on that occasion was Lady Writer. She has since came out and won a handicap hurdle at Punchestown. I think he could hit the frame at a double figure price.

Race five off at 3:40

Race five is the BetVictor Beginners Chase over two miles.I think Duc Des Genievres can get off the mark here for connections. He has finished second and third on his two chase starts to date.

His third behind Cilaos Emery looks good form. The fourth, Ex Patriot has since came out and won his beginners chase. The second, Impact Factor has since finished second behind Riders Onthe Storm at Punchestown. I think this is a great chance for him to get his head infront.
