Fairyhouses’ exciting Easter three day festival gets underway on Sunday with seven races. The feature race on the card is the Ryanair Gold Cup Novice Chase off at 4:25. Mengli Khan has been kept busy of late running at Cheltenham and Aintree. Those two runs came over the distance of this race, two miles and four furlongs. His first time trying the distance was at Cheltenham when he ran a creditable race finishing third behind Defi Du Seuil and Lostintranslation. Lostintranslation has since came out and won impressively at Aintree over three miles.
Mengli Khan ran another good race when finishing third at Aintree earlier this month. He finished third behind Kalashnikov and La Bague Au Roi, the first three pulled along at clear of the fourth. If he is none the worse for his two recent outings I think he is the one to beat at a price of 5/2.
Race two off at 2:20
Roxboro Road returns to hurdles after four runs over fences. He was last seen winning over fences at Leopardstown in March off a mark of 107 and now rated 111 over fences. He returns to hurdles and runs off a mark of 107. He has previously won over hurdles off a mark of 98 and I think 107 is a rating he will surpass in time. I think he will run a big race at 5/1.
Race three off at 2:50
Honeysuckle missed Cheltenham with a set back but makes it to Fairyhouse for this Grade one. She has won three races under rules to date. She has won twice at the track including a Grade 3 last time out over two miles and two furlongs. The extra two furlongs won’t be a problem and I think she will win at a price of 15/8.
Race five off at 3:50
Riders Onthe Storm didn’t get very far at Cheltenham falling at the sixth fence in the Close Brothers. Prior to that he bet Impact Factor at Punchestown. He now has to give Impact Factor five pounds but I think he is still improving and will be able to give away the weight to most rivals. I think he is the one to beat at a price of 3/1.
