Preview of racing at Navan

By Luke

Navan’s seven race card gets underway at 2:05, but My first selection comes in Race two off at 2:35.  Verhoyen ran a good race last time out to finish third behind Mokhalad at Naas. He is a horse who has only won once when winning at Dundalk last year. He was once highly rated at 93 but now runs off a mark of 69. I think he  is down to a mark he can compete at and I think he will run well at 7/1.

Race three off at 3:10

The Irish Rover sets the standard here. He ran eight times as a two year old,the best of those runs came in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh over six furlongs. He ran a nice comeback finishing fifth over a distance that is possibly too far for him. A return to sprinting will see him to better effect here and I think he will be hard to beat at 15/8.

Race six off at 4:45

Blenheim Palace looks very interesting off a mark of 76. He didn’t show much during his two year old campaign but I think he is a horse who will improve with racing. He finished eight on seasonal reappearance, he was given an easy reintroduction when his chance of winning was gone he was given an easy time. I think he will come on for the run and can run well at 8/1.

Race seven off at 5:15

Union Gap ran well on seasonal reappearance at Clonmel to finish third over two miles. He will enjoy the step down in trip from two miles to one mile and five furlongs. Noel Meade and Colin Keane have a great record when teaming up and I think he will run well at 6/1.
