Preview of day three at the Punchestown Festival

By Luke

After the shock announcement that Ruby Walsh would retire with immediate effect yesterday we move onto day three of the Punchestown Festival. The feature race is the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle off at 5:30. Bapaume was last seen finishing fourth at Cheltenham behind Paisley Park. He ran a nice race to be fourth and pulled clear of the fifth home. On his penultimate start he finished second behind Presenting Percy at Gowran back in January. He is only a six year old and is showing signs of improvement throughout the season. I think he will go close at 5/2.

Race one off at 3:40

Curious Times was an impressive winner of a maiden hurdle back in January. He bet Black Tears by nearly three lengths with the third a further twenty four lengths back. The third Dommage Pour Toi has since came out and won a Grade two at Fairyhouse. He comes a fresh horse after being off since January and I think he will go close at 10/1.

Race two off at 4:15

Snugsborough Hall was unlucky not to get involved in the finish at Fairyhouse when he was carried out by Minds Eye. He looked to be traveling very well and definitely would have put it up to Impact Factor, Snugsborough Hall was receiving six pounds on that’s occasion but he know receives thirdteen pounds off of Impact Factor. I think he will get back to winnings ways here at 7/2.

Race five off at 6:05

Insult was last seen falling at Fairyhouse last week when travelling well four from home. Prior to that he had only two starts over  hurdles and will improve with racing. I think his mark of 125 is fair and he can run well at 14/1.
