Preview of racing at Naas

By Luke (@lukekeena1) and Killian (@KillianBroderi1)

After what has seemed to be an eternity, we have live racing back in Ireland. Naas hosts a eight race card getting underway at 2:55.

The first race I have a selection in is the first division of the Clinton Higgins Chartered Accountants Handicap over six furlongs. I like the Andrew Slattery trained Sunset Nova. While his form towards the end of the season was disappointing, he did show good form earlier in the season. He ran five good races in a row off a higher handicap last summer. He finished that run of good form off with a win at Tipperary off a mark of 70. He is only a four year that I could see improving over the winter. I think he will outrun his double figure price.

In the second division of the handicap I will side with the Adrian McGuinness trained Never Back Down. Just over a year ago he was rated 97 when trained by Hugo Palmer. His best run since switching yards came at Dundalk off a mark of 78 when he finished runner up to Geological. While his overall form is not very appealing, he has dropped a lot in the handicap and I think he will run a good race at a double figure price.

The fifth race on the card is the Kuroshio At Compas Stallions Committed Stakes over five furlongs for three year olds. Southern Hills is a horse I liked last season, but missed most of the season after a setback. He improved gradually through the early part of the season before going on to win the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. While on jockey bookings he looks to be the O’Brien second string I think he will run a good race before possibly going onto the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

The last race I have a selection in is the Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital Woodlands Stakes over an extended five furlongs. I think Sceptical is a sprinter to follow this year and should take a lot of beating here. This lightly raced four year old showed rapid improvement over the winter. He won three races and achieved a rating of 114. I think he will win and it will be a nice stepping stone onto Royal Ascot.

Killian’s selections:

4:00 Poets Pride

5:35 Forever In Dreams
