This race is a Heritage Handicap raced over six furlongs and is the feature race on the final day of Glorious Goodwood.

Here is your runner by runner guide….

1. Gifted Master

This horse is a seven time winner over six furlongs and he has won big handicaps over top weight before. He has to carry 5lbs more than his nearest rival based on the weights so that isn’t ideal.

2. Spring Loaded

Ryan Moore partners this flashy grey, who won a similar heritage handicap last time at Ascot over five furlongs and but he is also a multiple six furlong winner. He has been nineteenth on his only start at this course but that can be ignored.

3. George Bowen

Won a good handicap at York by a whopping six lengths off a mark of 89. Last time out, he won the Scottish version of this race by two and three quarter lengths and seems well in off a nice mark and weight.

4. Lancelot Du Lac

Last year’s winner of this race under Frankie Dettori, he has won two times since. 27th of twenty eight last time out and as a consequence was dropped 2lbs for that so races off a mark 1lbs higher than last year.

5. Aeolus

Winner of a six furlong handicap on seasonal debut but has been thirteenth of fifteen and last of ten since then. Will need to step up.

6. Justanotherbottle

Only ever won over five furlongs. Decent fifth behind Spring Loaded last time out but will need to really improve to take this contest.

7. Tis Marvelous

This horse hasn’t won since landing a five furlong group two at Maisons-Laffitte as a two year old. He showed that he may be on the way back to winning ways soon when only beaten less than a length in the Wokingham.

8. Growl

Last win came in 2016 in a Listed race beating Aeolus off 114. Now runs off 99 and was recently a good fourth in the dash at York.

9. Silent Echo

This horse ran a good race to be fifth in the Wokingham and is a dual winner at six furlongs at Windsor this season. He runs off a career high mark but has a decent draw.

10. Gunmetal

Really improved from previous efforts last season. He has won twice over six furlongs this season and was favourite for the scurry ran at the Curragh but could only manage third behind Intisaab in the end. Drawn near to where the winner was last year, he has a good shot and a great jockey on board.

11. Watchable

David O’Meara’s charge has won three times so far in his career at six furlongs. He was third on his only try at Goodwood. The draw in twenty seven isn’t ideal and may not be up to this level of racing.

12. Tupi

This horse’s most recent win came in a Listed contest in April 2017. He will need to replicate that run to figure in this and is 4lbs lower than then.

13. Eirene

People often say you need a group horse to win tough handicaps like this and this filly fills that credential. She’s a Listed winner over five furlongs and was a close second in a Group Three behind Anna Nerium and in the Nell Gwyn. Last seen in May, she’s coming here off a break.

14. Haddaf

Has only ever won over four and five furlongs and has been last and second last on both attempts over six furlongs. I don’t think he will stay.

15. Foxtrot Lady

She broke her maiden at the eighth attempt and replicated that next time out when winning well at Carlisle. She was the impressive winner, despite the small margin, of a competitive handicap at Newmarket. She is likely to figure off a nice weight and draw and her half sister won this in 2016.

16. Marie Of Lyon

Good chance for a big race win for Connor Murtagh as his mount has won over six furlongs in the past. She has a decent draw in 6. Richard Fahy does well with these type of horses and shes reverting back to handicap company.

17. Glenamoy Lad

Gets the help of having champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa on board. Winner of his last two, he has a nice, progressive profile but may struggle.

18. Pettochside

He may be nine years old but he’s a proper good horse and is on a career high mark. He loves it here and Hollie Doyle always gets a good tune out of him!

19. Quench Dolly

She’s a six time winner including two times over six furlongs and has a reasonably good chance. She has a good jockey on board in the form of Gabriele Malune.

20. Atletico

This horse is often well fancied but doesn’t win often and is normally second but he is nicely bred. His younger, full sister Fairyland was bought for 925,000 gns and is a decent horse for Aidan O’Brien. He is creeping back down to a winnable mark.

21. Solar Flair

Most of his wins have come one the All Weather but has won twice on the turf. He was eighth in this last year and is 2lbs higher than his last turf winning mark. This will be tough though.

22. Muscika

He won well at Ayr in June but hasn’t won since and looks a bit high in the handicap. He was thirteenth behind Spring Loaded on his penultimate start.

23. Open Wide

Three times winner and once over six furlongs, this horse was third behind Quench Dolly last time out and fourteenth behind Spring Loaded the time before that. Will be one of the outsiders.

24. Barrington

A winner at Nottingham three starts ago off 87 and is looking a bit high in the handicap in order to take this. The ground may be on the slow side for him.

25. Reputation

The highest mark he has won off is 87 and he goes off 90 in this. Nice performance last time out but he may struggle in this company.

26. Poyle Vinnie

This horse is a solid handicapper and was a good second behind Spring Loaded at Ascot in a similar race at 25/1. He is likely to be a big price despite two good efforts on his two starts after that race.

27. Merhoob

Darragh Keenan takes the ride on this horse, who gained his first win on turf in June. He’s a jewel winner at six furlongs and stays well. There is no weight on his back either.

28. Swift Approval

This horse would be better fancied if this was over seven furlongs as that is the horse’s preferred distance but he has won at six furlongs. He hasn’t got the best record at Goodwood but he has no weight on his back and will be near the front from the start.

VERDICT

I was impressed by SPRING LOADED last time out in a similar race to this so he gets my vote. Foxtrot Lady is a good filly and will be thereabouts. My each way selection is Eirene. She seems a nice progressive filly and her group form is a plus.
